Brazilian Girls are a quartet from New York City known for their eclectic blend of electronic dance music with everything from tango and chansons to house and lounge styles. The band has described their sound as "melting pop". None of the members are actually from Brazil and the only female member is lead singer Sabina Sciubba. Didi Gutman plays keyboards for the band, Aaron Johnston plays the drums and Jesse Murphy plays the bass.
Kinky is a five member band from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico formed in 1998. It consists of members Gilberto Cerezo, Ulises Lozano, Carlos Chairez, Omar Góngora, and Cesar Pliego. The band's music takes heavy influence from Latin music as well as rock, dance, and techno. They sing mostly in Spanish, but some of their songs contain lyrics in English. They have been signed with Sonic360 Records since the release for their first studio album.
Adam Freeland continues to hold residencies at the best dancefloors around the globe (like London’s prestigious Fabric club), and was in California this past summer making his third appearance at the renowned Coachella Music Festival. Earlier this year, he joined in the prestigious Global Underground” mix series w/ Global Underground 032: Mexico City, which represents Freeland’s seventh commercially-released mix CD. He’s remixed everyone from Kelis to Orbital, receiving a Grammy nomination for his 2005 remix of Sarah Vaughn’s “Fever” and notoriety for his smash bootleg revamps of Nirvana and the White Stripes.
The Vau de Vire Society ravages and titillate the live entertainment scene around the Bay and beyond. This Avante-Cabaret collective consists of classically-trained dancers, some of the nation's most acclaimed acrobats, aerialists, contortionists and side-show acts. They cross-pollinate genres by collaborating with an eclectic variety of renowned musicians and DJ’s in creating original stage shows for the non-pretentious.
A twelce-piece ensemble, led by Fishbone's legendary Angelo Moore, the Orchestra staffed bymany of the Bay Area's best live players is heavily influenced by anything and everything that shakes the soul; jazzy-house and drum 'n' bass, funk, African, Latin and the hipster big bands. The result is an instantaneous bump in the head and the butt.
Bassbin Twins were born in Los Angeles, moved to Belgium, and are now based in San Francisco. Started in 1992 simply because of a "love for the beats", they've recorded for Skint, Belgian Breaks, Southern Fried, and others, as well as their own numerous one off independent releases. A live Bassbin Twins show is a remix of all their favorite music. Eclectic in nature, the connection lies in the unique rub they put on each track.
Syd started his own production company under the name Opel, intended to raise parties with purpose that showcased a range of forward thinking underground dance music. He is the co-founder and leader of the Opulent Temple, and also volunteers as a member of the Board of Directors of the San Francisco LoveFest. His musical tastes and dj talents are as diverse as his interests. Depending on the setting you’ll hear him playing a range of tech funk breaks & dirty electro, to heady West Coast progressive and progressive trance.
Described by some as "your girlfriend's favorite DJ," Smoove has made a name for himself as one of the best breaks DJ's on the west coast. Based in San Francisco, he's made NiteVibe's annual DJ Dream Team top ten list for three years running in the bay area. He's played to crowds in venues ranging from dodgy warehouses, parties in the desert, and clubs of all shapes and sizes. Regardless of the venue or the size of the crowd, one thing is certain - Smoove will have people on their feet.
Filling the night with the sounds of accordion, guitar, upright bass, piano, drums, and mesmerizing vocals, TANGO LA MELODIA transports audiences to a dream-like past where the worlds of Tango, Gypsy Jazz, silent film, and the speakeasy atmosphere of the Roaring 20's blend seamlessly together. They deliver a heart-pounding show complete with Tango and Cabaret dancers, sultry atmosphere, and original music from collaborators Brent Bishop, Paige, and Carly Patterson.
A Pleasuremaker show is one where the music and the dance floor never stop. The band is led by Joey McGuire, who writes and sings soulful lyrics and hooks over dynamic samples and breaks from funk, electronic, Brazilian and Afro-beat sources. Joel Elrod plays drums, B Lee plays percussion and Wendell Rand plays bass. The horn section consists of Marcus Cohen on trumpet and Kate Pittard on saxophone.
LOOP!STATION started out as an escape for two classically trained musicians from their respective rock bands, (Deadweight and Birdsaw). As LOOP!STATION, Sam Bass on cello and Robin Coomer on voice sample themselves live and 'loop' the parts creating honest and unique compositions. The shows are intense, captivating. When you get one of their albums home and it sounds just like the show you just saw, it becomes very apparent that LOOP!STATION is operating in a world all its own, a world of passionate musicality.
Behold GOOFERMAN: an ever-morphing body fluid of breakbeat, funk, drum & bass, raggaeton, rock, hip hop, bhangra, and whirled beat, all parlayed to the audiences of the world by a new-fangled, super-styled breed of klown. Equal parts knee-jerk reaction, accidental intent, and alchemy, GOOFERMAN originally materialized as an unsanctioned back alley experiment in lo-brow aural expression.
Three monsters, the last surviving creatures of planet Zoopy have stolen a spaceship and crash landed in a convent in South America. Upon encountering the aliens, the nuns are suddenly transformed into fabulously outfitted Zoopy Girls. The Zoopians turn the remnants of their ship into musical instruments and commence the "space funk conversion" of the unzoopy world.
